Racist Vandalism on Campus

December 04, 2017

Dear Thorneloe Community,

This past weekend (December 2-3), Thorneloe University was again a target of racist vandalism. Anti-racism handouts located in a bin on a faculty member’s office door were removed, with one handout torn in two and left in front of the office door. As a result, an investigation has been launched and LU Security has been notified.

Thorneloe University staff, faculty and Board members condemn, in the strongest terms, this and all forms of racist behaviour. It has no place in an educational setting and is completely contrary to our values.

Thorneloe University will continue to stand against discrimination and harassment as we foster well-being and honour diversity, inclusion and respect. We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that Thorneloe University remains a safe and welcoming place to live, learn and work.

Anyone with information about this or other incidents, or any questions or concerns, please contact me at president@thorneloe.ca.

Faculty have been asked to read this notice to their classes this week and post on D2L.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Derrenbacker
President
