Former Thorneloe University President to Head Wycliffe College

Thorneloe University at Laurentian is pleased to congratulate Bishop Stephen Andrews on his appointment as Principal of Wycliffe College, a leading theological school in Toronto.

After serving as Dean of the Diocese of Saskatchewan in Prince Albert, where he was also Principal of the James Settee College for Ministry, Dr. Andrews was appointed President, Provost, and Vice-Chancellor of Thorneloe University in 2001. During his time at Thorneloe University, he oversaw the building of a new academic and administrative wing, as well as the expansion of Thorneloe’s academic programs. Dr. Andrews continued to be active in the Anglican Church of Canada, serving on the Council of General Synod, chairing the Faith, Worship and Ministry Committee, and a member of the Primate’s Theological Commission.

Dr. Bruce Ward, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Religious Studies, and Acting President of Thorneloe University, described Dr. Andrews’ time at Thorneloe as “a time of exciting growth and also harmony, as the university benefitted from his collegial leadership style.” After his election as Bishop of the Diocese of Algoma in 2009, Dr. Andrews continued his relationship with Thorneloe University, teaching as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, and serving as the Honorary Patron of the School of Theology. In 2013, he was appointed the Chair of the Ontario Provincial Commission of Theological Education, holding one of its meetings at Thorneloe University.

We look forward to a continuing fruitful relationship of academic cooperation between the School of Theology and Wycliffe College as Dr. Andrews prepares to take on his new role as Principal.
