In addition to serving as Provost of Thorneloe University, Jay Koyle is Dean of the Diocese of Algoma and Incumbent of St. Luke’s Cathedral, Sault Ste. Marie. Jay has a long and fruitful history of fostering formation and renewal in parish, diocesan, ecumenical, national, and international contexts. Since 1987, the year of his ordination as a presbyter (priest), Jay has held numerous pastoral, academic, and diocesan posts, and has been in demand as a consultant, conference speaker,
and liturgist.

A member of the North American Academy of Liturgy, participating in the Christian Initiation Seminar, he also is a member of Societas Liturgica, the International Anglican Liturgical Consultation, and the North American Anglican Colloquium of Liturgical Scholars. Jay is a past president and current Council member of The Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission, and served as Chair of Faith, Worship and Ministry for The Anglican Church of Canada from 2016-2019. He was a delegate to General Synod in 2023 and will serve as a delegate once again in 2025. Jay earned a doctoral degree in Homiletics from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary for his dissertation, Calling the Church to It Heart: Preaching, Parish Catechumenate, and the Revitalization of the Twenty-first Century Congregation, and he holds the degrees of Master of Arts in Theology (Liturgical Studies) from the University of Notre Dame, Master of Divinity (Huron/Western), and Bachelor of Music, Honours in Music Education (Western).

He has authored numerous journal articles, provided a consultation paper on corporate/communal speech and language for The Commission for Liturgical Revision of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sweden in 2007, and was a contributing author to Go Make Disciples: An Invitation to Baptismal Living, published by Augsburg Fortress. In both the U.S. and Canada, Jay is acclaimed as an inspirational speaker who brings a terrific sense of humour and an uplifting message.

Jay is married to The Rev. Susan Montague Koyle and, with their sons Stephen and Kevin, live with Chanel the “best doggie girl ever” and their Cadre of Kitty Cats.
