Theatre Arts (former program)

What is Theatre Arts (former program)

Over many decades Thorneloe University contributed five distinct programs through the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University: Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies; Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Studies; Religious Studies; and Ancient Studies. By May 1 2021 all of these programs were closed when Laurentian University terminated its historic federation agreement with our university. The program and course descriptions remain on this website as a testimony to the achievements of our professors and lecturers, our benefactors, and above all, our students.

A program of the Department of Theatre and Motion Picture Arts at Thorneloe University, Theatre Arts offers a personalized learning environment in which students pursue both academic and practical courses in the field by studying subjects such as acting, directing, theatre in education, history, voice, movement, musical theatre, and Canadian theatre. Two mainstage student productions are presented each year. Practical work may include specific roles or responsibilities in professional theatre productions as well as within the Theatre Arts Program.

Students can pursue the four-year BA in Theatre, three-year BA in Theatre or the four-year BFA in Theatre Performance or Theatre Production (completing the first two years at Cambrian College Technical Theatre Program). Students can combine studies in Theatre and Motion Picture Arts. Sudbury is a burgeoning hub of film development and students in the Motion Picture Arts have opportunities each year to work on a professional production in development in the area.
